Speaking at National Careers Week 25’

Earlier this year, I had the privilege of speaking at ERIC the Creative Career App, as part of National Careers Week (NCW) 2025, which ran from March 3rd to 8th.

Sam hosted a brilliant series of online career talks focused on the creative industries. The line-up featured a Director, a Movement Director, and an Educator and I was proud to represent design. In fact, I was the only female designer speaker, which made the experience feel even more meaningful.

For my session, I decided to share three quotes and three personal notes that have guided me through my career so far. My path into design wasn’t the most traditional, and that’s exactly what ERIC is all about, showing that there isn’t just one way to build a creative career.

My 3 Quotes and. Notes were:

1. “The best way to predict the future is to create it.” — Peter Drucker

Use your career to shape the life you want.

2. “Design is everywhere.” — Paula Scher

The more you look, the more you find.

3. “You can’t build a reputation on what you are going to do.” — Henry Ford

Be vulnerable with your work and share it.

These ideas are simple, but they’ve shaped the way I approach design, creativity, and my freelance journey. Sometimes it’s not about knowing all the answers, but about staying open, putting yourself out there, and creating opportunities along the way.

What I love most about ERIC is the accessibility of it all. It’s a platform that brings honest, real-world career insights directly to young creatives, wherever they are. I can only imagine how much of a difference something like this would have made for me when I was just starting out.

Being part of National Careers Week was a reminder of how powerful it is to share our stories openly. If even one person listening felt encouraged to take their first step into design, in their own way, on their own terms.

A big thank you to the Sam at ERIC for inviting me, and for building such a supportive space for the next generation of creatives.
